Adjacent to Daniels Spectrum, the Paintbox Condominium has been a catalyst for creative endeavour. As part of Canada’s largest neighbourhood revitalization project, the market condominium tower not only contributes to the socio-economic mix, which is vital to the success of the revitalization project, but the project has created the opportunity for the community to convey the cultural vitality of its people through art, food and carpentry for at-risk youth.

A quilt hanging in the lobby was sewn by a group of local Bengali women and tells their Regent Park story. Work by local artists is hung on the walls of the Condominium’s public spaces. Regent Park Film Fest productions are shown in the screening room.

The Paintbox Bistro is a social enterprise, training staff in the culinary arts, many of them residents of the neighbourhood. The Bistro has a regular schedule of jazz events, and is quickly becoming a venue with distinct musical flavor and an appreciative audience. The Bistro also operates a catering kitchen serving the Spectrum Café.

The creation of successful neighbourhoods encompasses more than just provision of housing. Creating opportunities for expression of culture and diversity are just as essential.
