About the Project

Avonshire was designed with a gesture towards the Art-Deco period of Architecture but it has been restrained from many of the overtly detailed examples in North America. The simple lined form of the massing that projects vertically upwards to the stepped mechanical roof detail is carefully enhanced with the dark metal panels to create a rich dynamic facade. It is also carried through into the Garden Townhouses at the base of the buildings that reach out into the public realm with intimate courtyards as the primary physical texture between sidewalk and private space. Avonshire also looked to the context of its immediate neighbors in developing its own unique character. Avonshire was created as a true community, after the vision of transforming the original Master plan of fourteen low rise rental buildings, into a phased development that would be influenced by a larger public open space that knits the neighborhood together.
