About the Project

The redevelopment of The Shops of Summerhill is a multiphase commercial project comprised of a contemporary addition to a series of historical buildings. The design of the addition takes cues from the adjacent context, using a material palette found in its surrounding buildings. In this addition, however, the stone and masonry are treated in a much more contemporary fashion, allowing opportunities for expansive glazing and clean lines. The project team worked closely with the client in facilitating a cohesive design framework for the interiors of all the respective tenants. The prime tenant, Terroni Restaurant, occupies a café/bar space on the ground level, with their main restaurant on the second level coupled with an extensive rooftop terrace overlooking the Summerhill North Station LCBO. The Shops of Summerhill development has become a landmark community destination, strengthened by the people’s appreciation for both traditional architecture as well as contemporary design.
