The new facilities at the Glendon Campus of York University support Glendon College’s initiative to create a Centre of Excellence for French Language and Bilingual Postsecondary Education.
The expansion and renovations are the first major project to be completed on the Glendon Campus since its construction 40 years ago. A contemporary intervention that respects the 1960’s buildings and elevates the users into the surrounding landscape, the project adds 49,000 sq.ft.. of classroom and student space in three above grade and one below grade storeys and renovates 15,340 sq.ft. of the existing York Hall A-Wing.
A true glass box, the building envelope blurs the boundary between interior and exterior and takes advantage of the bucolic surrounding landscape. The lightness and immateriality of the building envelope draws the surrounding landscape and views of the Campus and ravine into the building. From the inside out, the building showcases the activities and life of the school.
