About the Project

The base of ART Condominiums is a 4-storey three dimensional masonry grid of piers and spandrels, rendered in precast concrete with coursing reveals and porcelain tile accents. Pier spacing echoes the rhythm of shopfronts along nearby Queen Street West. Housing 152 units, it offers a unique residential mix including live/work and townhouse units.

ART seeks to address its cultural context by incorporating elements of urban life characteristic of the neighbourhood into the design of its public realm by exploring creative opportunities for civic engagement and animation. When not in use, the loading dock becomes a unique event space and encourages public appropriation of the alleyway. The sidewalk widening to the south of the building will incorporate a generous pedestrian thoroughfare, customized street furniture, as well as private patios fronting a curated mix of food establishments at the ground floor.
