Located in the heart of one of the City’s most historic neighbourhoods, adjacent to the iconic Flatiron Building and blocks from the St. Lawrence Market, The Berczy makes use of contextually-sensitive architecture.
The four and five storey street walls give due respect to adjacent heritage buildings by maintaining a consistent height and pedestrian scale. The use of warm red brick, dark window assemblies and light stone serve to blend with the rich texture of the existing neighborhood. The reconstructed heritage façade along Church Street retains the original brickwork and window shape.
The upper floors of the development are set back in order to conceal the added density from the street and make the 13-storey development far less imposing. Intentionally contrasting with the historically-sensitive street wall, the upper floors are distinctly modern in their use of opaque floor-to-ceiling glazing and extensive terracing which extends outdoor living spaces.
