| DEVELOPER'S COMMENTS: Kilgour Estates' terraced condominium residences has been masterplanned into twelve acres of an existing estate just off Bayview Avenue, with the architectural influence lending itself to comparisons with turn of the century English estates. It is nestled between the Canadian National Institute for the Blind and the Hugh MacMillan Rehabilitation Centre which presented a challenge to accommodate the natural grade changes, and develop a form that would complement the surrounding terrain. The terraces and balconies that flow towards Burke Brook Ravine accentuate the rich warm brick and subtle earth tone pre-cast elements of the façade. The continuity of architectural language was further developed by creating railings, pilasters, vertical stone quoining and columns that develop a richness in the details of the building that portray the nature of a Georgian influenced residence. The success of the building is that the detailing has not become vulgar by mixing verbose gimmick decoration, but proudly offers a historic charm to the neighborhood and residents that a tight urban site cannot provide. |
